To assist with the monitoring of respirable silica dust in coal mining operations, PMRD researchers have developed a sampling and field based analytical technique that can quantify respirable silica levels at the mine site after sampling has been completed. A gravimetric sample is taken and the filter is placed in a portable FTIR sampling instrument that analyzes the sample.

the site. Generally, mining includes drilling and blasting of silica ore in lifts, excavation of loose ore with dozers and front end loaders, front end loading loose ore into haul trucks and haulage of the ore about 15 miles to the processing mill located in Valley, WA.
The Metals Mining and Milling Operations Act , passed in 1994, established a regulatory scheme that is specific to metal mining. Mines included under the Metals Mining and Milling Operations Act are defined as operations mining base or precious metals and processing the ore by treatment or concentration in a milling facility.
Moberly involves an integrated mining and processing operation. The Moberly deposit is a large scale and high grade quartzite silica ore body located on the slopes of Mount Moberly, approximately 7km due north of Golden. The deposit is uniquely high grade with an average grade SiO2 content of 99.7%. Currently, identified resources are capable of supporting a mine life of approximately 35 years.
The most significant silica mines are the Glenshera sand pit near Mount Compass, 50 km south of Adelaide, and the 23 Mile lump silica deposit near Whyalla. 2013 production of glass and foundry sand was 476,000 tonne, dominantly from the Glenshera mine area. Production of crushed quartz from the 23 Mile quarry was estimated at 26,000 tonne. Glenshera
Silica Mine region. The high grade Albanian based Silica Quartz Ores under our control originate from only the highest grade of Quartz reserves that are available in the Balkans and Southern European Region... These large Quartz reserves have been used historically in the past when the region was under past communist rule where most of the previously recovered product was sent exclusively back into the former Soviet Union and hence considered by them as an exclusive and a strategic resource.
The White Silica Sand Company Pit is near Caryville, Tennessee. The White Silica Sand Company Pit is a surface mining operation. Initial production took place in 1929 and overall output was considered to be small size. The ore mined is composed of sandstone. The ore body is described as tabular shaped of unknown dimensions.
